I purchased this Bible because I was looking for a study Bible to allow me to go further in my Bible study time. I was also intrigued by the way it is arranged, chronologically.I am so very happy with this purchase! It is a beautifully laid out Bible. It is printed in full color, with an abundance of notes for most verses. There are the typical notations in places where there are alternative translations, or references to other Scriptures. But then there are also copious notes that shed light on the verses, and how to apply them to your life today. I find myself highlighting various footnotes, in addition to the usual highlighting of verses.Another feature I love is that there are always small maps on pages where geographical information is given in the Scriptures. For example, it is very easy to visualize Jesus travelling through the Holy Land during His ministry, because every time he goes to a new place, there is a map detailing the route. Did you know that the Sea of Galilee is actually a lake? I didn't realize that until I discovered it in this Bible.I also really enjoy the New Living Translation. My church usually uses the NIV, and that has been my main reading text for years now. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the NLT version, but I really like it so far. It is very easy to read and understand, and it sounds quite beautiful and smooth when read out loud. It is also great for my children to hear me read, and easier for them to grasp than even the NIV. I appreciated the detailed description of the process the people behind the NLT went through to come to this particular translation of the Bible, and I feel confident that it is a good translation after reading those pages, which can be found at the beginning of this Bible. It is very, very important to note that this version is arranged CHRONOLOGICALLY, not canonically. So this Bible will not be going with me to church, as it would be difficult to quickly find a particular Scripture during the pastor's sermon. There is a table of contents at the front that lists every Scripture in the normal order, along with the page number where it can be found in the chronological arrangement. For study and for flow of reading, I find this way of ordering the Scriptures rather fascinating.I could go on and on about all of the wonderful features of this Bible, but those are the main points I wanted to make. I would urge you to seriously consider adding this Bible to your collection! It is a priceless resource and it has injected a good deal of energy into my daily readings. I love it!
